Jocelyn Esparagoza
Jocelyn and her family suffered a lot financially when one of her son's got sick. They were financially drained but through her determination she was able to start a business in peanut butter making.
Jocelyn Esparagoza, 48, is a resident of Toledo Cebu City. She is married to Valentino Esparagoza, 48. They were blessed with 5 children namely: Joseph, a college student; Verma is already working; Veronica is a college student; Von is also a college student and Val is an elementary pupil.
Their family business is the making and selling of ice cream. Jocelyn learned it from her uncle who was also engage in ice cream business. Her uncle also taught her about his secret ingredient in his ice cream. After learning all the basic's in ice cream making, Jocelyn decided to make it their source of income. With a starting capital that she borrowed from her uncle she decided to start her ice cream making business. Their ice cream became popular that they have received many orders from nearby towns and barangays. Their sales increased and they were able to save money to buy a motorcycle that they could use for the delivery of their ice cream to the different places. They have also vendors for their ice cream. It was really giving them good income that time that Jocelyn really felt so blessed.
Unfortunately, trials came on their way. Their son got sick of dengue fever and he was already in the brim of death. The treatment for their son was so expensive that Jocelyn decided to sell the equipment on their ice cream making and the motorcycle. Their son was confined to the hospital for many days that even their savings was also drained. However, she never regretted that all their savings were drained because her son recovered from dengue and it was all she prayed for. It doesn’t matter that their business capital was gone what matters for them was the life of their son.
The family finds it hard to stand up again with no capital to start with. Luckily, TSKI conducted livelihood training on their barangay and Jocelyn was able to attend the training. She learned from the training on how to make peanut butter. Because of her determination, she also availed a small capital to start with from the organization. She started to make peanut butter and sell it to the market and to different establishment and because of the good quality of her business and cheaper prices, her products become click to the people. She never expected that that she could recover the money she loses before. Once again, she was able to earn income.
As of now, Jocelyn still needed additional income for her business expansion. She wanted to buy a motorcycle to be use for the delivery of her products. She also wanted to buy the materials needed and ingredients in making peanut butter to increase her output.
Additional capital will be a big help for Jocelyn and her family. All that she wanted is to save some money for the education of their children to give them a better future.
